WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The Garden Of The Finzi-Continis takes place in Ferrara, Italy between the years 1938 and 1943, telling the hautingly beautiful story about a way of life now lost forever. The enormous gardens of the Finzi-Contini estate surround the family both literally and metaphorically, and seemingly insulate them from the spread of anti-Semitism in Mussolini’s Facist from schools, libraries and public places, the Finzi-Continis open their gates to the friends of their children (Dominique Sanda and Helmut Berger). Internationally acclaimed and Academy Award®-winner of the Best Foreign Language Film in 1971, The Garden Of The Finzi-Continis is an important classic.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.92:1 picture has inconsitencies and looks dated with subdued color fidelity, generally natural fleshtones and weak blacks. Images are hazy and wanting in sharpness and detail. Exteriors are much more natural in appearance than interiors. Noise and artifacts are distracting. Subtitles cannot be fully read on widescreen monitors.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is veiled in fidelity, with stereo limited to the music score.
