WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Prom Night is the horrifying story of four high school teenagers with a very dark secret. When they were schoolchildren, a cruel game resulted in the death of a young girl. Eight years later, the victim’s sister, Kim (Jamie Lee Curtis) is Prom Queen and in love with the Prom King (Casey Stevens)—one of her sisters killers. As Prom Night nears, an unknown killer has plans to avenge the girl’s death. Soon, Kim’s friends begin disappearing and the halls of her high school are filling with blood.

LaserDisc Picture:
The opening flashback sequence is very out of focus and hard to make out. The images and sharpness do not improve as the movie progresses. Images are filtered and blurry with a dark cast over the color fidelity. The only scenes that appear even remotely sharp and detailed are the close-ups. Color fidelity, though generally natural, lack richness and are subdued throughout. Slight noise and occasional artifacts are apparent. The aspect ratio is 1.78:1.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished and compressed monaural.
