WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on the novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Hound Of The Baskervilles features Peter Cushing as the world-famous detective Sherlock Holmes. With his helpful associate Dr. Watson (Andre Morell), Holmes learns of the mysterious legend of the Baskerville curse. Many years ago, the evil Sir Hugo Baskerville murdered a woman who tried to escape his cruel household—and as he left the scene of the crime, the horrible cry of a “hound from hell” resounded in the night. Shortly after, Sir Hugo was found savagely murdered and the entire Baskerville family was cursed. Holmes takes the case to try and save the last remaining heir (Christopher Lee).

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, matted at 1.66:1, looks dated and exhibits mediocre color fidelity on its fake looking sets. Sometimes colors are rich, while other times appearing a bit dull with slightly brownish fleshtones. The darker scenes appear oversaturated. Contrast is poor and shadow detail is bluish and undefined. Noise and minor artifacts are apparent throughout for a mediocre presentation.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished monaural that sounds compressed and distorted with background noise.
