WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The romanticized story of the daughter of Czar Nicolas is retold in this animated version of the legend of Anastasia. With political upheaval all around them in 1916 Russia, young Anastasia is separated from her grandmother, the Dowager Empress Maria as they escape execution. Years later, Anastasia must battle the evil Rasputin in order to return to who she believes may be her grandmother.

LaserDisc Picture:
The animated 2.30:1 picture exhibits superb quality in all aspects. The animation is sharp and detailed, with no noise or artifacts for a solid picture that is sure to delight.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
Both the Dolby® Digital 5.1 discrete and matrix PCM soundtracks won’t disappoint. Both are spatially dimensional, with the Dolby Digital edging out the otherwise exemplary matrix PCM version with a slightly wider and better delineated soundstage and split surround delineation. The music score is terrific with a rich harmonic fullness and dynamic character that is totally satisfying. Bass extension is deep and powerful and further accentuated with discrete .1 LFE enhancement. Foley effects are nicely complementary to the animation as is dialogue.
