WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Charles A. Lindbergh, The Spirit Of St. Louis is a triumphant biography featuring James Stewart in the role of the famous aviator, Charles Lindberg, who, in 1927, flew his single engine airplane non-stop across the North Atlantic Ocean. Two original theatrical trailers are included.

LaserDisc Picture:
The CinemaScopeŽ picture looks dated with colors that are always undefined, lacking clarity. Contrast and shadow delineation are both poorly rendered. Images are generally wanting in sharpness and detail, lacking fine detail and texture. The picture, framed at 2.55:1, is riddled with noise and artifacts for an overall dated visual experience.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack sounds dated, although produced originally in stereo and matrix encoded for this release. Overall fidelity is slightly thin and bright with distortion. Surround envelopment is often aggressive and there is a good deal of effective stereo soundstage effects that work well to create scene ambience. The music score is spread across the soundstage and, while dated, sounds good. Dialogue is nicely produced at times though often monaural directed.
