WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
In Lady Snowblood: Love Song Of Vengeance Yuki Kashima, also known as Lady Snowblood, is sentenced to die for the 37 assassinations she has carried out to avenge wrongs committed against her family (the topic of the original Lady Snowblood film). En route to the gallows, she is rescued by a mysterious man who offers her a trade. For saving her life, he expects her to work as an assassin for him. Interesting historical liner notes are included with this engrossing action film.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, framed at 2.35:1, is oversaturated throughout and lacks detail. Contrast and shadow delineation are extremely poor, with often glowing whites that darken the other images on the screen. Images are wanting in clarity, as they are very undistinguished. Blacks are deep and extremely solid, but completely lack detail. There is minor noise and artifacts occasionally apparent, but the lack of color clarity is the LaserDisc’s true flaw. The yellow English subtitles cannot be read on widescreen displays.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is credited as monaural and, while undistinguished, there is matrix leakage to the front and surround channels, but the signals are faint.
