WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
A Smile Like Yours is a charming comedy that focuses on the Robertsons, a young madly-in-love San Francisco couple who are doing their best to include a baby in their lives. Danny (Greg Kinnear) and Jennifer’s (Lauren Holly) inability to conceive leads to the humiliating perils and pitfalls of the fertility clinic. Adding to the pressure is Jennifer’s perfume shop’s potential merger and an amorous architect (Jill Hennessy) with designs on Danny.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, framed at 2.30:1, exhibits excellent color fidelity with nicely rendered fleshtones, rich and warm colors and deep, solid blacks. Images are generally sharp and detailed with excellent contrast and shadow detail. Some interior scenes, like in the fertility clinic, are wanting in better clarity, due to some minor noise and color bleeding, but overall, this is a pleasing presentation. There are no apparent artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Surround soundtrack sounds conventional, but the music score is terrific and provides subtle, but effective surround envelopment. Dialogue sounds superb, with excellent spatial integration. Exterior effects are produced in stereo, but the soundtrack is mostly mono.
