WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
It Lives Again is the terrifying sequel to It’s Alive, part of a trilogy that also includes It’s Alive III: Island Of The Alive (not reviewed). Larry Cohen teams up with Academy Award®-winning monster make-up artist (An American Werewolf In London) Rick Baker to create the hideous threesome of fanged and clawed newborn executioners. Eugene (Frederick Forrest) and Jody (Kathleen Lloyd) Scott are an excited couple expecting their first baby. When they receive a visit from Frank Davis (John Ryan, reprising his role), warning them that their baby has the same characteristics as his, they refuse to believe that it could happen to them. But then they give birth to one of three monstrous creatures. The Scott baby is on the loose and Eugene and Jody are forced to set themselves up as bait in order to catch their child before it kills again.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, like its predecessor, is matted at 1.85:1 and looks dated, but does not suffer from colors that are subdued. Fleshtones are a little more natural and colors have better definition with blacker blacks. Images are generally sharp, but still lack in fine detail and definition. Shadow detail fares better with deeper blacks, but is inconsistent and wanting in definition. Even though this sequel looks better than the original, it’s inconsistencies make it just as bad.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is distorted monaural that sounds overly bright and thin.
