WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The 20th Anniversary Widescreen Edition of Grease celebrates the smash hit play by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. Olivia Newton-John made her American film debut as Sandra Dee, the naive new student at Rydell High School. She spent a wonderful summer in love with Danny (John Travolta), but the end of summer ended their relationship—so they thought.

LaserDisc Picture:
The THX®-quality assured picture, framed at 2.32:1, exhibits rich and vibrant colors that are fully saturated with generally natural fleshtones, and deep, solid blacks. Images are sharp and detailed, with good contrast and shadow delineation. Only minor artifacts are apparent, and noise is limited to occasional interior scenes. Sometimes the picture looks a little plugged up and wanting in spatiality, but it is a presentation that will surely please.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital 4.1 soundtrack is a disappointment, sounding slightly distorted. The discrete’s surround envelopment is limited to the terrifically entertaining music numbers and occasional effects. The matrix sounds more spatial and develops a more consistent subtle surround presence.
