WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on the novel A Stone for Danny Fisher by Harold Robbins, King Creole features Elvis Presley as Danny Fisher, a troubled youth whose singin’ sets Louisiana’s French Quarter a-rockin’ in 1958. After failing high school for the second time, Danny has become the family disappointment, so he hooks up with a gang of hustlers to try and make a few bucks. But one night while bussing tables at a nightclub, he gets his big break when a tip from a sweet girl puts him on stage. With songs like “Trouble,” “Hard-Headed Woman” and “Lover Doll,” King Creole is a rockin’ Bourbon Street treat for Elvis fans.

LaserDisc Picture:
The black and white picture exhibits a generally pleasing grayscale, with nicely rendered contrast and shadow detail, as well as deep blacks. Images are generally sharp and detailed with good clarity and convincing textures. The picture is fairly solid throughout, with only minor artifacts apparent. The aspect ratio is 1.72:1.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished monaural with a slight background hum that mars the experience.
