Norman Dale (Hackman), a once hailed, now-failed star college basketball coach, takes up the unenviable task of coaching Hickory High’s team. Dale has not been on the court in twelve years and has to fight off the town’s ridicule because of his age and coaching methods, but believes in the six players he started out with. And on the night of the vote to drop or keep him, the small team becomes one of the strongest and most amazing in the heartland.
