WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Arnold Schwarzenegger stars in Raw Deal as the down-and-out ex-FBI agent, Mark Kaminsky. Kaminsky had been a top agent before his unconventional methods of investigation got him thrown off the team. Now a small town North Carolina sheriff, he is given a second chance by FBI Chief Harry Shannon (Darren McGavin). The assignment is to capture Lou Petrovita (Sam Wanamaker), a powerful head of organized crime in Chicago. His reward is possible reinstatement in the FBI. There’s one hitch: Kaminsky must work without the consent, the knowledge, or the protection of any law enforcement agency.

LaserDisc Picture:
The anamorphic scope picture is presented at 2.32:1. Picture quality is generally poor with faded color, inaccurate fleshtones and shadows that are darkly rendered. Images lack sharpness and detail and appear out-of-focus. Slight noise and grain, as well as artifacts, are apparent throughout.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is effectively produced with spatially rich surround envelopment provided by an excellent music score and sound effects. It was mastered from the original four track magnetic stereo elements. The sound is dynamic but fidelity is slightly bright, although not strident. Dialogue is naturally spatial.
