WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Heathers is the biting black comedy of bad manners, peer pressure and post-pubescent politics that gained cult following after its release in 1988. The most powerful clique at Westerberg High, known as the “Heathers” is led by Heather Chandler (Kim Walker) with Heather McNamara (Lisanne Falk) and Heather Duke (Shannen Doherty). Another member is Veronica Sawyer (Winona Ryder), who is appalled by her friends’ behavior, but keeps her opinion to herself until she meets rebellious outcast J.D. (Christian Slater). When J.D. learns of Veronica’s loathing, he talks her into a deadly plan to stop Heather Chandler and other “scums of the school”—when it is really J.D. who must be stopped.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.78:1 picture is natural looking with vividly rich colors, deep blacks and natural fleshtones. Slight noise and minor artifacts are apparent and the picture is wanting in sharpness and detail.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished mono that is bright and loud, dramatically exceeding the standard reference level.
