WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on the timeless love story and gripping trial that took place in the mid-1500s and shot forty kilometers from the actual town of the story, Depardieu stars as Martin Guerre, a troubled young man who disappears for nine years after he marries Bertrande de Rois (Baye). When he returns to claim his wife, son and land, villagers soon begin to doubt whether Martin is the same man who left them in his youth.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture is slightly cropped on the sides and has an aspect ratio of 1.60:1. The color fidelity is excellent with warm neutral colors, natural fleshtones and deep solid blacks. A sharp and detailed picture with excellent contrast, shadow detail is wanting. Noise and marring artifacts are apparent throughout

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The sound is undistinguished monaural.
