WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Horror cult favorite The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (the murder weapon in the title is listed as two words) is Tobe Hooper’s dark and terrifying tale about what happened to five young friends one summer afternoon in rural Texas. After hearing reports of grave robbing, the group sets out to check on a family grave. Soon after, one-by-one they wander into the murderous clutches of Leatherface (Gunnar Hansen). The narration is done by none other than television’s John Larroquette.

LaserDisc Picture:
Exhibiting generally natural fleshtones, the color fidelity is inconsistent. The picture is wanting in sharpness and detail, and shadow detail is mediocre with slight noise and artifacts throughout. Contrary to the cover, the aspect ratio is 1.75:1 with a full screen supplemental section.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is essentially mono though it has been remastered in Chace Stereo Surround. This is a significant improvement over the monaual theatrical version resulting in a dramatic sense of terror.
