Supplementals
Criterion’s release of The Blob features the theatrical trailers for both the 1958 and 1988 versions. Adding to the fun, Burt Bacharach and Mack David’s lyrics to the toe-tapping, cheek-popping theme song are written out on the LaserDisc jacket so that you can sing along with the over-dubbed Bernie Knee, starring as The Five Blobs.

WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on an idea by Irvine H. Millgate, The Blob became an instant hit and still is even today. It stars Steve McQueen in the only film he was ever billed as “Steven” and the only film in which he plays someone named “Steve.” When a couple of necking teenagers (McQueen & Aneta Corseaut) witness a strange meteor that strikes the Earth, they soon learn that it is a ravenous blob of red Jell-O from outer space. While The Blob is out wolfing down unsuspecting citizens, the teens are scorned by the authorities for their imaginative story. Beware of The Blob—it is way too much fun. (Suzanne Hodges)

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture is matted at 1.82:1 and exhibits a dated look with “plugged up” color fidelity, unnatural brownish fleshtones and deep, undefined blacks. Images are wanting in sharpness and detail, with poor shadow detail and contrast. Major distracting artifacts mar this problematic picture, but there is no apparent noise.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The dated soundtrack is poorly presented in undistinguished and compressed as well as distorted monaural.
