Samsung And CBS To Make History As ""The man Without A Face"" Kicks Off Groundbreaking Season of HDTV Programming Samsung To Underwrite Cost Of Digital Conversion

Samsung Electronics America and the CBS Corporation have announced the first CBS Movie season broadcast in High Definition TV (HDTV), underwritten by Samsung. High Definition programming kicked off Wednesday, September 1st, when ""The Man Without A Face"" is simulcast from 8:30-11:00PM Eastern Time on CBS which transmit the digital HDTV signal across the country. This sponsorship adds to CBSís plan for delivering programming in the high definition format, making this the first season of prime time digital programming in history. HDTV provides the highest resolution possible, making it the most realistic television viewing to date. ""Until now, HDTV broadcasting has been sporadic which has limited its exposure and acceptance by the consumer,"" explained Steve Pension, the Senior Marketing Manager for Samsungís Digital Products Group. ""Beginning this month, consumers will be able to see demonstrations in retail stores across the country. More importantly, those who own or who plan to buy high definition televisions will enjoy watching the majority of CBSís prime time programming broadcast in 1080i, the highest definition television format. This includes the Samsung sponsored presentations of the ëCBS Sunday Movieí and ëCBS Wednesday Movie.í The cutting-edge broadcast will be followed this month by HDTV programming including, ""Music From The Heart"" (September 26th) and ""Breakdown"" (September 29th). Eighteen of CBSís owned and affiliated stations are currently broadcasting in digital, covering approximately 38% of the nation. By November 1st, CBS expects to be transmitting digital programming to reach 50 percent of the country. Samsungís underwriting commitment will be supported with advertising across several appropriate CBS media platforms.
