Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America, Inc. (MDEA) has announced an agreement with Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) to produce projection televisions using TI's Digital Light Processingô (DLPô) technology. This fully digital display technology will replace cathode ray tubes (CRTs) in a number of future Mitsubishi projection televisions. This multi-year technology development agreement was reached to meet the future demands of the digital television marketplace, as well as the continued integration of digital services and technology into televisions. Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America expects to debut its first completely digital TV using DLP in late 2000.""We have been watching the development of DLP technology for many years and have been impressed with the dramatic performance improvements that have been made,"" explained Yoji Otani, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America, Inc. ""Instrumental to our continued leadership of digital television is the incorporation of a digital light engine. We are very excited to have reached this agreement with Texas Instruments.""""Our key constituents - dealers and consumers - expect Mitsubishi to be at the forefront of development of the first completely digital televisions,"" said Max Wasinger, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America, Inc. ""We expect to use digital light engines in many of our future TotalDigitalô products to ensure consumers that the new digital content can be displayed with the performance and reliability expected of a Mitsubishi television.""Robert Perry, Director of Marketing for Mitsubishi Digital Electronics, added: ""Digital television, particularly HDTV, as it matures, can take special advantage of digital display devices. The recently enhanced performance of DLP will enable a digital light engine to perform at the highest performance levels where 9-inch CRTs currently are the only solution.""""Mitsubishi is one of the foremost players in digital television,"" said Bob England, Senior Vice President and Manager of TI's Digital Imaging division. ""As such, we're honored by this endorsement of what DLP technology can bring to an exciting and rapidly developing market. We look forward to working with Mitsubishi to capitalize on this significant opportunity.""For more information, contact Bob Perry at 949 465 6261.
