Video distributor Major Video Concepts, Inc. is bringing video retailers into the Internet business with the launch of its much-anticipated e-commerce program. The innovative service will allow retailers to offer consumers a video selection beyond the confines of their physical location with over 25,000 new VHS and DVD titles available for purchase online. The e-commerce offering extends MVC's Web program, which creates a personalized Web site for each retailer. MVC currently has over 4,000 stores participating in this service. In adding the e-commerce option, each retailer web site will immediately offer videos and DVDs available for purchase. MVC will ship the product to the consumer and award the participating video retailer a commission, splitting the profit on the sale. An example of a video retailer e-commerce site can be seen at http://www.myvideostore.com/silverlake.""This is different from affiliate programs offered by sites like Amazon and CDNow. MVC creates a completely personalized site for the store,"" states MVC's Vice President of Marketing, Bob Tollini. ""The consumer will think the site truly belongs to the store since MVC's name is no where to be found.""MVC plans to distinguish its Internet service from e-commerce heavyweights such as Amazon.com and Reel.com by providing more than the typical e-commerce site. Consumers will receive a free catalog rental with each e-commerce order, encouraging future business with the local video retailer. Tollini adds, ""MVC plans to offer exclusive premiums like prepaid phone cards featuring movie images. This fall, we will be offering collectible Austin Powers cards with the purchase of any New Line Home Video title.""Customers are also provided with an information rich site with incentives not available to shoppers using other on-line retailers. Unique content, such as interviews with Hollywood talent and up-to-date release information will make for an appreciative and informed buyer.Consumer loyalty, something that has all but disappeared with the advent of e-commerce is a characteristic of the video rental business that MVC hopes to capitalize on for its customers. With MVC's new service, consumers buying from their local video store on-line will be able to place a friendly face with service and have a sense of confidence not possible with other e-commerce competitors.MVC started providing the e-commerce service to customers October 4. The flagship site of the video store network, MyVideoStore.com, will launch the same shopping features later this fall. Profits from sales on the MyVideoStore.com site will also be shared, using the consumer's zip code to determine the participating video store closest in proximity.Major Video Concepts, Inc. is the second largest video distributor in the U.S. with 14 locations across the country and annual sales over $250 million. For more information, contact Bob Tollinis, Vice President of Marketing, Major Video Concepts, Inc. at 1-800-365-0150.
