Regal Entertainment Group, a leading motion picture exhibitor owning and operating the largest theatre circuit in the United States, today announced that tickets are now on sale for the U2 3D concert movie. U2 fans will have a chance to see their favorite group on the big screen exclusively at IMAX theatres. The concert movie opens at a total of 16 Regal Entertainment Group IMAX theatres across the country during this exclusive IMAX 3D release on Wednesday, January 23.
“U2 3D in IMAX is a great way to experience the excitement while the 3-D cameras take you up-close to enjoy the talent onstage with one of the world’s best known musical groups. This concert movie is certainly a great example of the premium experiences we offer our patrons,” stated Dick Westerling, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Regal Entertainment Group.
In IMAX 3D, films virtually jump off of the screen and float around the theatre. This is made possible by a combination of IMAX’s powerful 3D projector – which projects two strips of large-format film – and special, polarized 3D glasses that audience members wear to fuse the left and right eye images. The result is an amazing three-dimensional cinematic experience where the screen disappears and the film becomes a virtual reality.
Through IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology, films are enhanced for the unique image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience, to enable a remarkably larger than life presentation. These breathtaking images are projected onto a specially designed screen that stretches beyond the audience’s peripheral view. The powerful visual experience is complemented by a state-of-the-art digital surround sound system.
U2 3D is the first live-action movie ever shot, produced, and exhibited in digital 3D. Marrying innovative digital 3D imagery and multi-channel surround sound with the excitement of a U2 concert, U2 3D places viewers within the pulsing energy of a stadium concert given by one of the world’s most popular bands.
Directed by Catharine Owens, U2’s visual content director, and Mark Pellington, who directed U2’s “One” video, U2 3D transforms a series of concerts from the band’s Vertigo World Tour into a completely new entertainment experience. The film documents a set list that includes such seminal U2 songs as “Pride (In the Name of Love),” “New Year’s Day,” “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” “Miss Sarajevo,” “Where the Streets Have No Name,” “With or Without You,” “Bullet the Blue Sky” and “One,” as well as more recent tracks such as “Beautiful Day,” “Love and Peace or Else,” “Vertigo,” “Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own” and “Yahweh.” U2 3D is rated G for general audiences with all ages admitted.
