Princeton Graphicsí PVD-5000 Progressive DVD Player

Princeton Graphic Systems is expected to ship its new PVD-5000 progressive DVD player in February 2000. The suggested manufacturerís retail price is expected to be between $5,000 and $5,500. The playerís performance and features were guided during the design process by Joe Kane, Widescreen Reviewís Video Technical Contributing Editorial Director and the producer of ""Video Essentials"" on DVD and LaserDisc. Recently showcased at the CEDIA í99 Expo, the new player delivers crisp, progressive, digitally scaled images that recreate cinema quality pictures right at the consumersí home. The player provides viewers an unprecedented degree of control over picture quality from viewer-selectable resolutions of native 480p, upconverted 720p or 960p and variable frame rates of up to 120fps. The overall experience is a balanced synergy of fine sound and picture integrity that creates resounding theatre ambiance. The new player utilizes true color reproduction and is artifact-free with a full 10-bit process to provide viewers with HDTV-quality picture. It has a 480i/30 (NTSC) and 480p/24/30/60 DVD playback and features user selectable 480p, 720p or 960p vertical resolution and 720, 1440 or 2160 horizontal oversampling. Viewers can select frame speeds at 60, 72, 96 or 120 Hz for film sources. The PVD-5000 has an auto-detect and auto-switch film/video mode. The player has true 75 ohm BNC connectors for all video outputs with a dedicated switching regulator for video circuitry. The latest Beta version of the new player will be demonstrated at CES 2000 in January.
