Samsung Electronics America, Inc. expands its Tantus series of high-end televisions with the addition of two Pure Flat Progressive-Scan television sets. The sets also incorporate a progressive scan system, which doubles the scanning. A PC VGA input adds to their versatility, allowing use as a computer display ""This latest addition to the Tantus series establishes Samsung as the leader in high-end televisions,"" says Jim Sanduski, Director of Marketing, A/V Products. ""With these two models you have the look and performance of tomorrow, today. Adding the Pure Flat series of direct-view sets to the Tantus series will strengthen the consumer perception of this premium sub-brand as well."" The 27-inch set will begin shipping in July with an MSRP of $1,699 with the widescreen 30- inch version shipping shortly after, and carrying a retail price of $2,199. With the introduction of these two new sets, Samsung aspires to reach the pinnacle of TV. The new series features Component Video Inputs, 3D Digital Comb Filter, Velocity Scan Modulation, and Invar Shadow Mask. The sets also boast dynamic multiple focus, which the company says ensures that the viewable picture is focused evenly throughout the screen and not just the center. The 1999 Pure Flat sets also offer added versatility with its advanced two-tuner picture-in-picture (PIP) function. This function allows viewers to watch two broadcast shows at once, one on the main screen and the other in an inset, without the need for a second input source. The inset can be placed on any part of the screen and can be interchanged at the touch of a button. Adding to the flexibility of the Pure Flat series, two people can watch and listen to the two different broadcasts at the same time by using the setís built-in speakers and a pair of headphones. The two Tantus line additions also include a four-speaker sound system with 12.5 watts of audio output per channel and Dolby ProLogicÆ. For more information visit Samsung at http://www.sosimple.com.
