Outlaw Audioís New 6.1 Dolby Digital/DTS A/V Receiver Under $600

Outlaw Audio has announced the introduction of the world's first 6.1 channel A/V receiver to sell for under $600. Outlaw's Model 1050 will be available through www.outlawaudio.com in February, 2000. ""We believe that we have leapfrogged the industry,"" said Thomas Young, President of Outlaw Audio. ""A handful of 6.1 channel products are currently available, but only the Outlaw 1050 brings this exciting new technology to the consumer at an affordable price. Our unique internet-only business structure and strategic technology partnerships with companies such as Zoran make it possible for us to sell a product for under $600 that traditional retailers would have to sell for as much as $1,000."" Through the use of Zoran's ZR38650 multi-format digital audio processor IC, the new Outlaw receiver delivers precise decoding from all popular digital and analog surround formats, including Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Surround and other analog based matrix surround systems. Outlaw's designers worked with Zoran to develop three additional new analog surround modes as well as the proprietary algorithm for Outlaw's Surround 6.1 process. In addition, the automatic format selection feature of the ZR38650 allows the Outlaw 1050 to automatically switch to the appropriate incoming audio format, without user interaction. ""Zoran is very pleased to have been chosen by Outlaw Audio to provide the digital audio processing engine for their breakthrough 6.1 A/V receiver,"" said Paul Goldberg, Vice President of Audio Products for Zoran Corporation. ""The power and flexibility of Zoran's ZR38650 made it easy to meet Outlaw's demanding specifications, at their equally demanding price point."" Building on the brand philosophy established with the highly rated Model 750 Power Amplifier, Outlaw's first receiver not only delivers all the features consumers expect in a high quality A/V receiver, it adds the capability to extract the center surround information available in the digital soundtracks of many newly released DVDs. The center-rear surround channel enables movie sound mixers to place a sound effect clearly behind the listener's head. Now, the sound of a bullet fired toward the audience can be heard to fly over and strike behind their heads, rather than get lost at the sides of the room. With Outlaw's Model 1050 Receiver, consumers will be able to experience those effects at an affordable price. In addition to the breakthrough feature of Surround 6.1, the Outlaw 1050 offers a wide range of features as befits its audiophile heritage. For example, the unit's amplifier is rated at 6x65 watts (20Hz - 20kHz, <0.04% distortion, all channels driven). Each of the six amplifier modules utilizes all-discrete complimentary bipolar output devices, rather than the ""chip packs"" found on many other products in this price range. With preamp outputs for all channels and an on-board trigger to control external five-channel amplifiers such as Outlaw's award-winning Model 750, the Model 1050 receiver may be used as a high quality preamp/processor. In this configuration, one channel of the receiver may be used to drive the center rear surround at up to 90 watts RMS (8 ohms, 20Hz- 20 kHz, <0.04%THD). The Model 1050 is a full featured home theater receiver with connections for four audio/video sources (three with S-Video) and three audio-only sources. An additional 5.1 channel input is available for connection to future audio sources such as DVD-Audio, and the unit offers three digital inputs: two optical and one coaxial. A high quality FM Stereo/FM/AM tuner with 32 presets completes the input options. Other audiophile touches include gold plated, true five-way binding post terminals for all speaker outputs, an adjustable cross-over frequency with five settings to tailor the Model 1050 to almost any subwoofer and speaker system, an IR output jack to control other products in systems applications, and a selectable 8-ohm/4-ohm load switch. Set-up is quick and easy using a bright florescent front panel display that uses speaker image icons to simplify speaker configuration. Direct access buttons on the front panel or a multi-device programmable remote control other system parameters. In addition to the Model 1050 Receiver, Outlaw Audio also offers the Model 750 Power Amplifier with 5x165 watt output (8 ohms, 20 Hz- 20 kHz, all channels driven, <0.05% THD). Outlaw's next product, an audiophile preamp/processor, will be released in late February and will offer digital audio decoding, on-screen graphics, and hardware upgradablity at a price under $1,000. In keeping with the precedent established with the Model 750 amplifier, Outlaw Audio is so confident of the quality and durability of the Model 1050 that they offer it to consumers with a 30-day, money-back guarantee. If for any reason the customer is not delighted with the purchase, the unit may be returned for a full refund (less shipping). All Outlaw Audio products carry a five-year warranty. The Outlaw Audio Model 1050 6.1-Channel Receiver will be available in February for $599. Previous Outlaw customers, as well as anyone purchasing the Receiver and Amplifier together as a system, will receiver an additional $50 discount on the price of the receiver.
