Press Release
The ArtisaN™ 8K Series is a masterwork in video processing, built for discerning filmmakers, home theater dealers, and home cinema enthusiasts who demand nothing less than reference-grade performance. ArtisaN is the only video processor to support multiple 8K sources and 8K outputs, designed from the ground-up with high-performance FPGA architecture for future-proof technology.
This fall Lumagen -- the leader in video processing products for the home cinema, corporate, and studio markets these past 23-years -- will deliver the first in their ArtisaN™ Series, the ArtisaN 8K Ready video processor. ArtisaN will be the home cinema category’s first video processor with 8K inputs and outputs, and there is great anticipation by dealers and enthusiasts. To this the company is enacting a pre-order purchase and trade-in program that runs through September 2025.
Lumagen president Jim Peterson created ArtisaN to bring AV image mastery into the home cinema. “Being Lumagen’s first 8K processor family, with ArtisaN, we embarked upon a completely new and innovative design. We hand-crafted the proprietary hardware, software and video processing algorithms and have selected the finest components, 8K HDMI chips and much larger Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). This comes together to deliver the best in-motion video, complementing the filmmaker’s artistic craft, and delivering the best home cinema experience,” he said.
The initial ArtisaN 8K Ready version supports up to 4K60 inputs and outputs (upgradeable to 8K and 4K120 inputs and outputs with optional Software Key), including HDCP 2.3, HDR10, and HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma), and is compatible with Dolby® LLDV™ sources. “Optimizing HDR content has perhaps become the most important video processing feature,” suggested Peterson.
“ArtisaN delivers uncompromising clarity, flexibility, and control to ‘See what the director intended™.’ It integrates and will continue to improve upon Lumagen’s Dynamic Tone Mapping (DTM). This analyzes multiple regions of every frame of content, detects scene changes, and optimizes the image for each frame of content,” continued Peterson.
Jon Thompson, a producer for major movie studios including Walt Disney, recently evaluated the Lumagen DTM versus other brand’s tone mapping. Known as “JonnyFocal” on AVS Forum, Thompson posted this: “This is the best tone mapping I have ever seen, including professional non-real-time solutions. This made me confident that I made the right choice in picking Lumagen to show some of the world’s great filmmakers their work to review PQ. From Dailies to the final 4K home master… I hope you agree this is the world’s best video processor by a long way. The best just got better.”
Lumagen also places critical importance on motion picture scaling. "The ArtisaN includes all the current features of -- and builds upon the foundation of -- our Radiance Pro series as the industry’s best motion picture scaling. Using the Tektronix PQA600C analysis software, Lumagen scores more than 20% higher than the competition providing the best quality scaling for 4K, 1080, 720, and SD, which is also essential for aspect-ratio control,” pressed Peterson.
Like the top-of-the-line Radiance Pro 5348, the ArtisaN uses circuitry to reduce HDMI output clock jitter. Minimizing signal jitter is an extremely important criteria for HDMI to minimize jitter at the audio processor’s DACs. This in turn reduces distortion and improves audio.
ArtisaN will support Darbee™ processing for up to 4K60 sources and has an edge-sharpening feature that helps restore detail lost during compression of the digital content. The ArtisaN video processor has eight inputs, two outputs, and a host of video processing, setup, and calibration features.
“The adaptability of the ArtisaN is second to none. Using FPGA technology, the ArtisaN can add hardware image processing and setup features years after installation to incorporate new features as technologies evolve, providing the best image experience possible for our customers,” added Peterson.
With Lumagen’s 23-year legacy as the leader in the design and manufacture of video processing products for the home cinema, corporate, and studio markets, home theater professionals and enthusiasts around the world have been waiting for ArtisaN with great anticipation. To maintain the highest quality standards, as with all Lumagen processors, the ArtisaN will be manufactured in the USA.
