Perpetual Technologies, has introduced the remarkable P-1A DSP Correction Engine. Perpetual Technologies is a Web-oriented company based in Louisville, Colorado, that supports a wide distribution network and modest retail dealer base, while also selling directly to consumers. Its new P-1A is the first affordable, full-band, DSP-based correction engine designed to correct the inherent limitations both of loudspeakers and listening environments. Powerful, flexible and upgradable, it delivers dramatic definition and overall audio fidelity in high-end sound systems.Designed as a general purpose DSP engine, the P-1A is essentially three sensational products in one. Out of the box, it functions as a complete Resolution Enhancement Systems, which effectively upgrades the sound of all current CDs to 24-bit/96kHz resolution by using a special digital-to digital conversion process that combines software-based interpolation and hardware based upsampling. An easily installed software upgrade converts the P-1A to a speaker-specific, DSP-based correction system that insure s improved depth, realism and transparency with any speaker system programmed into the P-1A form an extensive library of speaker data. For spectacular speaker-to-room interface, an optional Room Upgrade Kit, which is equipped with a calibrated microphone and proprietary software, enables the P-1A to collect, analyze and precisely correct many of the anomalies associated with diverse listening environments.Perpetual Technologies utilizes a sophisticated Work Station and its own software to analyze performance measurements provided by individual speaker manufacturers in order to ""build"" these speaker-specific correction coefficients. On the front end, the P-1A is able to receive a digital data stream from any digital audio source, like CDs and DVDs. Then, the P-1A is able to play back at higher resolutions a corrected signal using the specific to individual speaker s in order to output a perfectly adjusted signal that compensates for the time, amplitude and phase (TAP) problems common to all loudspeakers. The P-1Aís modular hardware platform uses a new generation 32-bit Floating Point DSP-architecture that can support resolutions as high as 24-bit/192khz for all current digital formats, including Dolby Digital, DTS, MLP and other advanced multichannel formats. To set up, the Po1A is inserted into the audio chain between a digital source device, such as a CD or DVD player, and a digital-to-analog converter, whether the DAC is part of a digital processor or a stand-alone unit. The Po1A is totally programmable, using factory-supplied software packages that work with a broad array of current speaker systems.Suggested prices for the Po1A are $950 for the base unit, $399 for the Speaker Only Software upgrade, and $699 for the Room Upgrade Kit. The Po1A is available now, with Speaker Only Software coming on line in March, and the Room Upgrade Kit set for 3rd quarter 2000 release.
