The Directors Guild of America is giving its Lifetime Achievement Award to Steven Spielberg, who will join such past honorees as Orson Welles, Cecil B. DeMille, John Ford, Alfred Hitchcock, Akira Kurosawa, Frank Capra and Billy Wilder. ""I don't want to spoil my speech at the dinner by saying anything now,"" Spielberg said Monday through his spokesman Marvin Levy. He declined further comment. At 53, Spielberg is a notably young recipient of the accolade, but he comes to it having already won three DGA Awards for outstanding directorial achievement: ""Saving Private Ryan,"" ""Schindler's List"" and ""The Color Purple."" Six other Spielberg films, from ""Jaws"" through ""Amistad,"" have earned him six more DGA nominations.
