Yamaha Introduces Third Generation DVD Player

Yamaha Electronics Corporation has introduced the DVD-S795, a third generation single-disc DVD-Video player. The new model plays DVD Video, Video CDs and conventional CDs. It provides optical and coaxial digital outputs for DTS Digital Surround, Dolby Digital, and PCM audio formats and features Cinema Image mode, Cinema Loudness, and Super Quick Search. Cinema Image mode does several things. Yamaha says the mode recognizes a movie and will soften the brightness for better viewing on conventional direct view TV. The mode also is said to improve the visibility of dark scenes, and reduce picture noise. Cinema Loudness is said to enhance the center channel in the frequency range of the human voice to improve the intelligibility of dialog. The DVD-S795 has two composite video outputs as well as S-Video and component video outputs. In addition to the digital audio outputs, the player provides both 6-channel and stereo analog outputs. To deliver superb performance, Yamaha utilizes a l0-bit digital-to-analog converter for video, a twin-focus laser pick-up, and 96 kilz/24-bit audio DAC. The DVD-S795 spec for horizontal resolution is greater than 500 lines and its video luminance signal-to-noise ratio is 65 dB. Audio frequency range is 2 to 22,000 Hz for DVD at 48 kHz sampling; and 2 to 44,000 Hz for DVD at 96 kHz sampling. The CD frequency range is 2 to 20,000 Hz. The DVD-S795's total harmonic distortion is specified at a low 0.002%, and signal-to-noise is 115 dB, with dynamic range of 103 dB for DVD and 100 dB for CD. Yamaha's DVD-S795 comes with a full function remote control, features the company's V-profile front panel, and has a suggested retail price of $699.
