Sunfireís Home Theatre Speaker Ensemble Goes Where No Speaker Has Gone Before

Sunfire Corporation has introduced a new high performance home theatre speaker ensemble. Designated Cinema Ribbons, the new package is said to provide accurate wide frequency sound and nearly crushing sound pressure levels from its five diminutive ribbon-type two-way speakers. ""These speakers play louder, go lower, and are ten times smaller than any speaker on the planet that plays as loud or goes as low,"" said Bob Carver, Sunfire's President, and the speaker's designer. What accounts for this performance? Carver says itís Sunfire's use of high box pressure and high-back electromotive force, Emf. These extensions of Bob Carver's True Subwoofer technology are said to produce a speaker capable of achieving very loud sound levels while using a small cabinet. Carver says that a single Cinema Ribbon can play as loud as a large bookshelf speaker containing two 8-inch drivers and two centrally mounted tweeters. Each Cinema Ribbon speaker is a two-way system in a cabinet measuring 8(H) x 5(W) x 4-1/2(D) inches and containing two side-firing opposing extremely high excursion woofers and Sunfire's ribbon driver. The speakers can be stand, shelf, or wall-mounted and cover the range from 80Hz past 20kHz. When used together with a Sunfire subwoofer, Carver says the Cinema Ribbons can play louder, with less distortion than five conventional speakers, even those using very large boxes. Each speaker can develop a sound pressure level of 105dB and any three can produce a level in excess of 110dB. Carver says that the power handling capacity of ribbon speakers is legendary. If handled properly, the rugged design inherent to ribbon speakers makes them virtually indestructible regardless of power level. In addition to their sheer sound level output, ribbon speakers are known for their sweet sound. Carvaer says that unlike all other small home theatre speakers, the Sunfire Cinema Ribbons produce high level output that is sweet, accurate, and magically three dimensional. They can handle with ease the demands of movie soundtracks and yet deliver music as pleasurably as a concert hall. While the Cinema Ribbons are designed to work with Sunfire's Cinema Grand and Cinema Grand Signature amplifiers, they can be driven successfully by any amplifier capable of providing the 29dB or 30 B of gain most 100-watt amplifiers deliver. The Cinema Ribbon's ""fly-by-wire"" control system is said to provide full protection, low frequency auto throttle, thermal integrator, clipping eliminator, and overshoot control. Sunfire's new Cinema Ribbons have a suggested retail price of $2,800 for the five-speaker ensemble.
