Sunfire Corporation has introduced its first subwoofer priced at under $1,000. Designated True Subwoofer - Junior, the mode, says the company, provides tremendous price/performance value. It is smaller, more powerful, and - at an $895 suggested retail price - significantly less expensive than similar high performance subwoofers. The new 9-inch cube subwoofer incorporates a 7-inch bore driver and a massive 1,200-watt amplifier. Sunfire says that the combination of the amplifier, high-back Emf, high box pressure, and the long-stroke driver produces a virtually flat frequency response over the subwoofers 22Hz to 100Hz range - and that's at a 105dB level. For comparison, a 12-inch woofer with a 1/2-inch stroke will displace 66 cubic inches of air. The new Sunfire True Subwoofer - Junior, with its 1.35-inch stroke moves over 104 cubic inches of air. ""We designed our new subwoofer to take on and beat anything near it in the market. To approach the performance of this speaker, an enthusiast would have to spend nearly twice as much - and put a larger box in his room,"" said Randy Bingham, the company's Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Other features of the new True Subwoofer - Junior include continuously variable crossover points from 35Hz to 100Hz, 36 dB/octave crossover roll off slope, continuously adjustable phase, input level control, optical and standard high level inputs, and a passive 70Hz, 6 dB/octave hi-pass level outputs for satellite 1oudspeakers. The Sunfire True Subwoofer - Junior weighs 28 lbs., comes with a two-year warranty, and has a suggested retail price of $895.
