Kodak Opens Training Center For Projectionists

Eastman Kodak Company has announced the opening of a state-of-the-art-training center for projectionists in its Los Angeles, California facility. The Kodak training center provides hands-on training for projection booth personnel. Operators from participating theatres spend two to three days honing their skills on 35mm film projectors, sound equipment and any other equipment used in the projection booth. The program is designed to provide useful training for all levels of booth personnel. From loading platters to changing projector bulbs, every contingency for real-life situations is incorporated into each projectionistís education. ""Often, people who work in the booth just donít get exposed to some important aspects of their job,"" says Jim Ferguson, training center manager for Kodakís Cinema Operations group. ""A lot of people we train have been projectionists for some time, but if they donít deal with something every day, they tend to forget how to do it. We help them remember."" The classes are small - usually fewer than 10 people - in order to give the participants personalized training with the instructors. Conceived as a part of the Kodak ScreenCheck Experience, the training center provides exhibitors with an avenue for assuring that their novice projectionists are learning proper techniques from the beginning of their careers, and that veteran projectionists are making the most of the skills they have already developed. Ferguson adds, ""Proper training translates into cost savings for the exhibitor. It allows them to learn how to deal with any number of contingencies at a time when there isnít a roomful of paying customers waiting for the show and it maximizes the life of projection equipment through proper handling.""
