Chicago Critics Admire ""Beauty""

Swank, Sevigny, Cruise Receive Acting Honors

""American Beauty"" won the best-picture award from the Chicago Film Critics, while the filmís director Sam Mendes and Actor Kevin Spacey also won in their categories. The filmís Wes Bentley won for most promising actor. In the kudos presented Monday, March 13, 2000, ""Boys Donít Cry"" was also a multiple winner, with Hilary Swank as best actress and Chloe Sevigny as supporting actress. Supporting actor was Tom Cruise (""Magnolia""), and ""All About My Mother,"" directed by Spainís Pedro Almodovar, was tapped best foreign-language film. The screenplay award went to Charlie Kaufman for ""Being John Malkovich""; the cinematography honor was Robert Richardsonís work in ""Snow Falling On Cedars.""
