According to the Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association (CEMA), for the week ending December 4,1998 new DVD-Video player sales to retailers were 41,406, a solid 478 percent (+34,407) over 1997ís corresponding weekly figure of 7,197. The record sales week ended November 2, 1998 with 56,322 units sold to retailers, an impressive 239 percent (+39,696) over 1997ís corresponding weekly figure of 16,626. The November week broke the record of 54,422 units set on August 28,1998. The December 4 sales bring the year-to-date DVD-Video player sales to 897,360óa 186 percent increase over 1997ís corresponding year-to-date figure of 314,104. From launch to the week ending December 2, the total number of DVD-Video player sales to retailers is 1,244,360 units. That corresponds to approximately 800,000 DVD-Video players sold to consumers, based on a normal retail to consumer two-thirds to one ratio, though the November and December sales figures reflect retailer stocking orders for the Christmas gift giving holiday.
