Cleveland-based indy label, Telarc Records, long considered one of the premiere audiophile music labels, and one of the first to launch digitally recorded CDs, announced the release of its first Super Audio Compact Discs for the U.S. market this fall. The company made its first digital recordings in 1978 with the objective of providing the highest quality music reproduction possible. With the development of SACD by Sony and Philips, and its extraordinary Direct Stream Digital (DSD) companion recording technology, Telarc affirms its commitment to support SACD hardware by making a steady stream of new high resolution Super Audio CDs available. For the launch of SACD hardware in Japan this month, Sony has chosen Telarcís Super Audio CD Sampler for inclusion with all players.""The sound quality of the DSD recording technology is a staggering improvement over what weíve had until now,"" commented Telarcís President, Robert Woods. ""Better still,"" he says, ""is that SACDs will be fully compatible with all existing CD players."" Telarc began making its first recordings in DSD in May of 1998, and the company expects to have one of the largest offerings of pure DSD releases to coincide with the launch of SACD hardware.Among the artists who will be features on SACD will be Telarc veterans Erich Kunzel and Cincinnati Pops, Robert Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, and jazz legends Oscar Peterson and Dave Brubeck. By early June, Telarc expect to have its very first SACD titles available. These will include an album called ""On Broadway"" with Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops (CD-80498-SA), ""Stir It Up,"" a jazz-reggae project featuring Monty Alexander (CD-83469-SA), and ""Tango,"" featuring bandoneon artist Juan Jose Mosalini (CD-80526-SA).""We expect to have approximately a dozen titles available by the end of this year,"" Woods continued. ""We also have several multichannel surround recordings in the works, in anticipation of the future release of SACD multichannel hardware. We have been refining our surround techniques to ensure that our SACD multichannel releases are a blockbuster experience for audiophiles.""For more information, contact Michael Wilpizeski at 718 633 6775 or visitTelarcís Web site at www.telarc.com.
