Lucasfilm To Test Digital Projection With ""Star Wars: Episode I ñ The Phantom Menace"" - Digital Screening In Four Theatres Starting June 18, 1999

As first reported in the new Issue 33 of Widescreen Review in an article on the ""Electronic Cinema and Digital Projection"" which shipped to subscribers June 3, 1999, for the first time in motion picture history, a widely released feature film will be made available to moviegoers via digital projection. CineComm Digital Cinema and Texas Instruments, two of the industry's leading forces in digital projection of motion pictures, will provide their digital projector technology to screen ""Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace"" on two screens in the Los Angeles area and two screens in the New Jersey area starting on Friday, June 18, 1999. In the Los Angeles area the CineComm digital presentation will be held at Pacific's Winnetka Theatre and the Texas Instruments presentation will be held at AMC's Burbank 14 Theatre in Burbank, California. In the New Jersey area, CineComm's presentation will be at Loews' Route 4 Paramus in New Jersey and Texas Instrument's presentation will be at Loews' Meadows 6 in Secaucus, New Jersey.
