At the Public Broadcasting Serviceís (PBS) annual affiliates meeting in San Francisco this week, an extension of the collaboration between PBS and Intel Corporation was announced to enable PBS to broadcast enhanced DTV content 24 hours a day. The first enhanced DTV programming from PBS will air in April 2000. PBS and Intel see the possibilities for convergence of television and information on the digital broadcasting platform. PBS has been focusing on convergence for some time now which has resulted in the launch of PBS Online. According to PBS, its enhanced content will take advantage of increased digital bandwidth to offer viewers parallel programming with rich video, graphics and educational applications via PCs capable of receiving the DTV signal. Intel says that it is committed to enabling PCs to be the first DTV receivers capable of bringing this programming and information content to consumers next year.
