Wadia Introduces Elegant New CD Player

Wadia 301 Features Zero-Feedback Swift Currentô Technology And Other Sonic Enhancements For CDs And High Sample Rate Sources

23-May-01

Wadia, a division of Audio Video Research, Inc., introduced the stylish and sophisticated Wadia 301 Compact Disc Player, the first entry in a new family of Wadia audio products, at Home Entertainment 2001 at the Hilton New York Hotel. Housed in an elegant, newly-designed chassis, the Wadia 301 shares many of the features and performance qualities of the Wadia 861 CD player at a more accessible price. The 301 (known as the Wadia 831 during its development) signals the companyís commitment to incorporate its most advanced technology into an ensemble of related 3 Series products. The Wadia 301 is the second CD player to employ Wadia's patented Swift Currentô IC. Swift Current technology, a powerful proprietary circuit introduced a year ago in the Wadia PowerDAC Digital Amplifier, performs sonically critical current-to-voltage conversion with no negative feedback, resulting in demonstrably superior sound quality designed to bring a new level of musical enjoyment to owners of extensive CD collections. Conventional digital-to-analog converters (DACs) convert current to voltage (I/V) using feedback circuits based on operational amplifiers. Because the signal from the DAC chip consists of a series of step changes, the distortion introduced by this feedback circuit significantly limits sonic performance. Wadia's Swift Current technology performs this I/V conversion with a patented current-conveyor integrated circuit (IC) that eliminates feedback. This bipolar IC consists of an innovative connection of Wilson current mirrors, an emitter degeneration compensation scheme to optimize transient response and stability, and a novel current mirror arrangement to enhance output impedance. The Wadia 301 also includes Wadiaís patented DigiMasterô processing algorithm, which is designed to optimize sonic performance employing Wadiaís most advanced up-sampling technology. In addition, the Wadia 301 features the highly-regarded Pioneer stable platter transport, enhanced 24-bit Burr-Brown 1704 DACs, and improved passive parts in sonically critical locations. Wadia is currently accepting orders for the 301 CD player, which is priced at $3,650. For more information, visit www.wadia.com.
