""The Mummy"" DVD Promises Plenty Of Supplemental Material. Universal Also Announces DTSÆ Edition Of ""Ed TV.""

Universal City, CA ñ As previously reported on the Widescreen ReviewÆ Webzine (""Daily News"" and ""Studio News,"" June 22, 1999) Universal Studios Home Video has announced the DVD release of ""The Mummy,"" starring Brendan Fraser. ""The Mummy"" will be issued in two editions, one in widescreen format, one in full screen. Both editions will feature a supplemental section. The planned supplements include an audio commentary track by director Stephen Sommers and editor Bob Ducsay, a 40-minute documentary ""Building A Better Mummy,"" deleted scenes, trailers, Jerry Goldsmithís music score isolated on an additional audio track plus ""Egyptology 101"" ñ a collection of facts about ancient Egypt and Egyptian mythology. A DVD-ROM section is also included which will feature an interactive game, production notes, electronic postcards, cast bios and two screensavers. The suggested retail price will be $29.98 for either edition. The widescreen edition will be anamorphic (2.35:1) and both editions will feature English DolbyÆ Digital 5.1 and French Dolby Surround soundtracks. The scheduled release date will be September 28, 1999.. On the same day, Universal Studios Home Video will also release a DVD of the original 1932 edition of ""The Mummy."" Retailing for $29.98, it will be available in its original 1.33:1 aspect ratio with the inclusion of audio commentary by film historian Paul M. Jensen, archival photos and the original documentary: ""Mummy Dearest: A Horror Tradition Unearthed."" A DTS Digital Surround DVD of Ron Howardís ""Ed TV"" is also planned for release on September 28, retailing for $34.98. A Dolby Digital/Collectorís Edition was previously announced for release on August 17 with a suggested retail price of $34.98.
