Surround Sound Seminar Scheduled July 24th In Washington, D.C. Tomlinson Holman Leads Intensive 5.1 Training Course at NPR Studios

""Surround Professional"" magazine, in cooperation with NPR and TMH Corporation, will be presenting a one-day intensive surround sound training course at NPRís Studios in Washington, D.C., July 24th 1999. The ten-hour seminar will be taught by 5.1 audioís founding technologist, Tomlinson Holman. ""This is an intensive training course for audio professionals who are eager to learn proven techniques that will help them lead the surround sound revolution,"" Holman explains. ""This is not a workshop of theories, but of established and practical lessons that attendees can effectively use right away in their facilities."" The seminar scheduled will cover the following topics: - Production sound aspects of multichannel surround sound - Sweetening and re-recording multichannel sound - Console facilities, outboard gear requirements - Audio production-related aspects of Dolby Surround and 5.1 channel systems - Digital audio foibles and tips - Room acoustics for multichannel monitoring - Sound systems for multichannel monitoring Each registrant of the seminar receives a free copy of the acclaimed Surround Sound Workbook, a 200-pagereference source containing information available nowhere else. Tomlinson Holman, who coined the term ""5.1"" to describe his suggested configuration for advanced television audio, is a Professor of Cinema-Television at the University of Southern California (USC) and creates entertainment technology at TMH Corporation. Founding Editor of Surround Professional magazine, he was an observer member of the Advanced Television Systems Committee and participated in the audio subgroup. Holman is a Fellow of AES, BKSTS, and SMPTE and a member of the Acoustical Society of America and IEEE.
