NXT Research Creates SoundVu

SoundVu is the latest invention from the NXT research lab. Itís a case of being heard, but not seen. As NXTís most exciting development to date, SoundVu promises to revolutionize multimedia by integrating the display and speaker functions within a single component. Using SoundVu technology, a computer or television screen can double as an efficient sound radiator, saving space and weight and ensuring an unprecedented stable ""locking"" of sound to picture. Incorporating a SoundVu module within the display also offers the advantage of simplified connectivity. SoundVu combines the findings of NXTís research into DML operation in shallow enclosures with a new method of energizing the radiating surface using edge-mounted exciters. Applied together, these developments allow any type of display ñ CRT, LCD or Plasma ñ to function as a loudspeaker system. Even with a shallow display installation, incorporating soundís typically adds only 2-4mm to overall depth, depending on the required low frequency performance. Other potential uses include mobile phones and larger display devices. Crucially, sound output from a SoundVu component need not be mono, despite the use of a single radiating surface. By feeding different signals to the multiple exciters, a stereo effect can be achieved. SoundVu is the subject of new NXT patent applications to be licensed under a separate agreement, currently in preparation. For more information, contact Adrian Horne, NXT Americas, P.O.
