NxtWave Communications said it has developed a chip that will solve a snag in the U.S. way of transmitting high-definition television signals, a day after Motorola claimed to have also developed a chip to solve the problem. The U.S. system of sending the signals results in bad reception in urban areas, unlike a similar European system. The European system, however, requires more power and its signals cannot reach as far as the U.S. system. ""With the NXT2000 we've cracked the code for indoor and mobile reception, shown that (the U.S. system) is a robust and commercially viable standard,"" said Matt Miller, NxtWave President and CEO.
