Dolby Laboratories Debuts New Software Products For DVD And Next-Generation Packaged Media, Spotlights Surround Sound Technologies For HDTV Postproduction

Dolby Laboratories announced the first public demonstration of its suite of content creation tools, DolbyÆ Media Producer, for DVD and next-generation high-definition (HD) media at the 119th AES Convention in New York City October 7-11, in booth 400. The Dolby Media Producer professional tools includes Dolby Media Encoder, Dolby Media Decoder, and Dolby Media Tools. This family of products supports content developed using Dolby technologies, including Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and MLP Losslessô formats. These tools support upcoming disc-based media formats such as HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc, as well as DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, and broadcast formats. At its booth, Dolby will be presenting the Lake Technology product line's proven real-time control software used in sound reinforcement for live events to in-studio mixing and EQ. Lake's unique user interface allows sound engineers to control equalization with real-time instant adjustments made to any processor, thus enabling rapid and intuitive changes, from any seat in the house. Dolby will demonstrate the Lake Mesa Quad EQô with its Lake Controllerô software in a new in-studio surround application. In addition to demos of the Dolby Media Producer products, Dolby will showcase its proven surround sound technologies for HDTV postproduction, and sponsor two industry panels on the next-generation consumer disc formats, HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc. AES program registrants will be able to attend a special conference event, an afternoon with Ray Dolby, Founder and Chairman of Dolby Laboratories, who will speak on his life and the last 40 years he dedicated to enhancing the entertainment experience. Co-moderators Barry Fox, freelance journalist, and Paul Gallo, from the Professional Audio Manufacturers Alliance, will talk with Ray Dolby on Sunday, October 9, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Featured at Dolby Laboratories' Booth At booth 400, visitors will learn about Dolby Laboratories' products and technologies for professional applications, including HDTV, digital and analog television postproduction and broadcasting, and DVD authoring, as well as products and technologies for sound reinforcement. These include: -- Dolby's new software creation tool for DVD and HD disc media, Dolby Media Producer. -- HDTV postproduction tools such as Dolby E, which is specified by major broadcast, cable, and satellite networks for HDTV program delivery. -- New software for the Dolby DP570, which now incorporates Dolby Pro Logic(R) II technology for unprecedented control and reference monitoring for the creation and delivery of Dolby Digital and Dolby E surround sound and metadata for DTV and DVDs. -- The Lake Contourô digital loudspeaker processing system, for control of a large distributed system of processors from any seat in the house. -- The Lake Mesa Quad EQ, which delivers loudspeaker system processing and high-resolution equalization for recording, mastering, and broadcast use. It provides four discrete channels of Lake's powerful EQ Overlay processing, with extensible signal routing, delay, and dynamics capabilities. -- Dolby Pro Logic II technology for delivering captivating five-channel surround sound capability on any two-channel analog or digital television program or service, HD Radioô, VHS tapes, and video games.
