When the credits for the upcoming 3D episode of CTVís Medium roll on millions of North American television screens, the name SENSIO?, a Montreal-based company that specializes in 3D technology, will appear in a leading role. The young Canadian company was hired by the seriesí executive producer Glenn Gordon Caron (Moonlighting) to add its innovative and unique services in stereoscopic (3D) encoding and engineering to offer an unparalleled visual experience for the broadcast. The 3D enhanced Medium episode, entitled ìStill Lifeî, premieres Monday, Nov. 21 at 9 p.m. ET (check local listings) on CTV in Canada. ì(Directors) Jim Cameron, Robert Rodriguez and a host of other innovators have pushed the medium (pardon the pun) into the 21st century, and our show and our viewers will be the beneficiaries of that,î said Caron. ìI think people will be surprised by how vivid and dynamic 3D has become.î ìSENSIO is being recognized by the entertainment industry as the most advanced 3D company, with techniques and technologies that create the most immersive 3D experience there is. Medium called upon us following the work we did for Robert Rodriguez, who has been using SENSIO 3D technology in his post-production facilities for years now. Robert has also hired us as 3D specialists in his recent projects and is one of our best and earliest supporters,î said Nicholas Routhier, SENSIO President and Co-founder. ìWe have also received great reviews from producers such as Steve Oedekerk (Bruce Almighty, Santa vs the Snowman) and major studios including DreamWorks, who use our 3D technologies as well.ì Medium, which continues to grow as the Number One show in its timeslot, will benefit from an unprecedented, multi-dimensional CTV marketing campaign that will see one million, free, 3D glasses distributed nationally in the days before the broadcast. The 3D specs required to view the enhanced episode in 3D will be made available through a street-level campaign that will hit high-traffic areas on the streets of Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. Free glasses will also be distributed across the country in the November 19 issue of The Globe and Mail. CTV will support the campaign with a series of 30-second on-air promos in advance of the broadcast. Viewers without the glasses can still enjoy the episode, but without the extra-sensory, 3D experience. SENSIO was mandated to oversee all 3D-related aspects of the Medium episode: from storyboards to Digital High Definition shooting, State-of-the Art Visual Effects and broadcast encoding in SENSIOís proprietary S.A.F.E. 3D format, which uses advanced color management algorithms to produce an exceptional improvement in quality. ìBy converting an empirical craft into an exact and applicable science, we are the first and only company in the world to ensure the creation of high-quality, cost-effective 3D content. We manage all steps of the process from the creative spark to the final product,î states Pierre-Hugues Routhier, Vice-President of Professional Services and Co-founder at SENSIO. ìWorking with the Medium crew was an extraordinary experience and we are very proud of the final visual result that we have obtained together.î In the 3D episode, Allison (Emmy Award winner Patricia Arquette) comes to realize that there is an added dimension to the way she experiences art. It seems the act of creation is so intense that artists often leave an element of themselves behind in their work, an element that is evident only to Allison.
