Howard Stringer, Chairman and CEO of Sony Corporation of America, announced the appointment of Fujio Nishida as President and Chief Operating Officer of Sony Electronics Inc. (SEL), effective May 1. Nishida will replace Teruaki Aoki who will now become Corporate Executive Vice President at Sony Corporation's headquarters in Tokyo. Nishida is currently President of SEL's Consumer Electronics Group (CEG), which accounts for nearly three-quarters of SEL's annual revenues. A 28-year Sony veteran, Nishida has also held positions in Australia, Europe and Canada. ""Fujio has been guiding SEL's largest business in North America for the past four years, so he understands this unique and challenging market,"" Stringer said. ""I look forward to working closely with Fujio as we continue to bring consumers new digital products and services on the road to convergence."" Dr. Aoki will return to Sony Corporation's headquarters in Tokyo, working directly with Sony Corporation President and CEO Nobuyuki Idei and newly appointed Executive Deputy President and COO Kunitake Ando. In Aoki's role as Corporate Executive Vice President, he will work on global electronics issues with special attention to the US.
