Miller & Kreisel Sound (M&K) has brought together the distinctive sonic benefits of active bi-amplification with the advanced speaker design of its highly-acclaimed S-150THXÆ to create the S-150P THX ($1699), the companyís first powered speaker for home theatres. Capable of increased clarity and detail, as well as wider dynamic range and greater output capability, the S-150P THX is designed to serve as the ultimate main speaker in any multichannel system.Based on M&Kís Professional reference 2510P powered monitor, the S-150P THX incorporates a 180-watt (continuous at less than 0.01%THD+noise) internal amplifier with a frequency response of 80Hz-20kHz +/-2dB.The speaker actually integrates two identical internal amplifiers: one driving only the tweeters; the other, only the woofers. This unique design allows delivery of the output to the full rating of the drivers as required. For example, the amplifier can deliver its entire 180-watt capability to the woofer drivers, if no high frequencies are present in the signal. Additionally, the integration of two amplifiers allows the S-150P THX speaker to be bi-amplified. The design improves performance by optimizing more than just the speakerís on-axis response to give a very smooth response over a wide horizontal and vertical listening window.The unique Active Phase-Focused crossover concept assures accurate speaker response in both time and frequency domains at a very wide range of angles in both the vertical and horizontal planes, optimizing the speakerís three-dimensional response improving its on-axis sound. These benefits are particularly important for multichannel playback systems because, no matter where the speaker is located in the room listeners will hear superior imaging and sound quality with exceptional clarity both on and off axis.The S-150P THX utilizes three tweeters and two woofers. The 1-inch fabric-dome Transmission Line tweeter, which utilizes Ferrofluid for maximum power handling and dynamic range, delivers exceptionally smooth high frequencies. The woofer, M&Kís reference-quality 5.25-inch polypropylene driver, features exceptionally low distortion characteristics and extraordinary dynamic range and output capability.
