Samsung Electronics America, Inc. is playing a major role in shaping the digital future as the functionality of their Home Wide Webô (HWWô) initiative has been adopted CEA as a standard extension of the IEEE 1394 interface: EIA/CEA-775.1. Already a pacesetter in digital product technology, Samsung is now providing the industry-wide platform for home connectivity solution. The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) - an element of the Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) - R4.8 DTV Interface Subcommittee has adopted the EIA/CEA-775.1, a standard to allow connection between cable set top products and DTV decoders. Samsung engineers participating in this development proposed an enhanced standard based on the HWW initiative. EIA/CEA-775.1 involves using standardizing Internet protocols to convey audio, video and device control signals (play, pause, rewind, etc.). This innovative approach allows inherently interactive and completely compatible communication among A/V products via IEEE 1394 connections that adhere to the new standard. Samsung has already begun implementing this technology in its HDTVs and DTV set-top boxes, amongst other CE products. In addition to the digital and CE industries, opportunities will exist in the cable, satellite and PC industries. Thomas Rhee, Director of Digital Marketing Group for Samsung Electronics America, said, ""This is another testimonial of Samsungís digital leadership. This innovative and broad reaching approach allows the entire industry to easily and effectively implement home networking features while assuring broad compatibility.""
