High Definition TV Workshop Slated For Weekend Of May 20 In New York

On Saturday, 20 May and Sunday, 21 May 2000 the New York City Chapter of ITVA will produce a two-day, hands-on workshop on high definition television. This weekend workshop will cover all the technical aspects of HDTV production, including cameras, monitors, post-production, transmission standards and budgetary challenges. The emphasis will be on capturing the image, gaining familiarity with the 16:9 format, down-conversion, editing for two worlds (4:3 versus 16:9) and managing costs. All the toys will be available, including actors, sets for studio work, and locations. Prominent industry professionals, including Barry Minnerly, Julia Mintz and Peter Headey will be on-hand to show different techniques and to critique participantsí class work. The host is Metro-North, with state-of-the-art facilities conveniently located in New York City in Grand Central Terminal. This exquisite Beau Arts building will be our backdrop for all location shooting. A variety of studio camera setups will be available with one-on-one instruction in each module. Off-site visits to high-definition editing facilities, including the Tape House, The Creative Group and ColossalVision, are confirmed. Breakfast and lunch will be provided both days. Paid registrants will also receive extensive course materials, including a VHS copy of the Webb Foundation's ""Brave New World, A Hi-Def Tutorial"" (a $75.00 value, this fascinating technical overview features trailblazers in the High Definition world including: Alice Ikeda, Producer of KCTS/Intris' ""Over Canada;"" Larry Thorpe, Vice President, Business and Professional Group, Sony Electronics; Bob Tur, Videographer/Pilot, L.A.
