Digital Origin, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Media 100 Inc. announced it is partnering with consumer electronics giant THOMSON multimedia to deliver digital video editing solutions to its expansive DV camcorder customer base throughout Europe. As a result of this partnership, THOMSON multimedia - one of the largest suppliers of consumer electronics products in the world - will leverage its pan-European distribution channels to deliver Digital Origin's IntroDV digital video editing software with its high-end DV camcorders to customers in the U.K., France, Germany and Eastern Europe. This partnership underscores a significant trend in Europe toward the creation of streaming media content for delivery on the Internet and the rapid adoption of DV solutions for consumers, enthusiasts and Internet professionals to transform the Internet into a personal broadcast medium. With this announcement, Digital Origin and THOMSON multimedia are providing its customers with DV solutions to essentially enable them to connect their DV cameras to the Web. Under the terms of the agreement, THOMSON multimedia is bundling full-box versions of Digital Origin's IntroDV with two of its high-end DV camcorders, the THOMSON SCENIUM VMD20 and VMD9. IntroDV, an entry-level digital video editing solution hailed for its innovation and ease-of-use, is designed specifically to simplify the video editing process. Using the IEEE 1394 standard, or FireWire, users can easily move DV content from their THOMSON DV camcorder to their personal computer, using IntroDV to edit the video, mix sound and add basic effects in preparation for distribution over the Internet in the form of streaming media.
