Burr-Brown Introduces High Performance USB Audio DAC For PC Peripherals

1-Jun-00

Burr-Brown Corp. announced the PCM2702, an audio digital-to-analog converter (DAC) designed for USB (Universal Serial Bus) audio playback devices and multimedia audio systems such as USB speakers and USB headphones. ""The PCM2702 has been specifically developed to bring high-quality audio to USB peripherals surrounding the PC,"" said Mike Centorino, Audio Product Marketing Manager at Burr-Brown. ""The PCM2702 is the highest performance USB DAC on the market with over 100dB dynamic range and 105dB signal-to-noise ratio."" The PCM2702 combines a USB-compliant interface controller and a 24-bit delta-sigma audio DAC on a single chip. To achieve high quality audio playback, Burr-Brown has developed a new innovative clock generation technique called SpActô (Sampling Period Adaptive Controlled Tracking), patent pending. SpActô generates a stable, low jitter system clock from the USB interface audio data. The PCM2702 is based upon Burr-Brown's Enhanced Multi-Level Delta-Sigma Modulator architecture, along with an 8x oversampling digital interpolation filter and an analog output low-pass filter. The device supports 48kHz, 44.1kHz, and 32kHz sampling rates, and accepts 16-bit stereo or mono audio data. Digital attenuation and soft-mute features are included and controlled via USB audio class request. The device is available in an SSOP-28 package and operates on dual power supplies: +3.3V (digital) and +5V (analog). The PCM2702 is priced from $5.45 in 1,000 piece quantities.
