14-Jul-00

mPhase Technologies, Inc. (OTC BB: XDSL), the leading designer of broadcast digital television and high-speed data solutions for the telecommunications industry, announced agreements with major television networks to test the delivery of TV signals over copper wire through its Traverser Digital Video and Data Delivery System (DVDDS), which enables the simultaneous high-bandwidth transmission of voice, data and digital TV over copper wires. Through mPhase Television, a joint venture company created to distribute global broadband television, the networks will test the integrity of their content transmitted over copper. The next step will be to deliver the content to consumers of Hart Telephone in Hartwell, Georgia, the first beta site for mPhase's Traverser DVDDS, which has been receiving local content over telephone wires. The networks who have signed the testing agreement include A&E, BBC, Black Entertainment Television, Comedy Central, Courtroom Television, C-SPAN, Discovery Communications, Encore Media Groups (including Encore and STARZ! channels), ESPN, The Golf Channel, Great American Country, International Channel Networks, Scripps Networks, TVN Entertainment Corp. and The Weather Channel. The local NBC and FOX affiliated stations have also signed testing agreements, and discussions are being held to add on HBO, MTV Networks, USA Networks and more. In all, 54 channels are being tested. ""We are thrilled to be involved in the mPhase Television beta test as the exclusive country music video provider,"" said Ken Street, Senior Vice President of Distribution for Great American Country. ""This cutting edge technology certainly caught our attention as an exciting new form of distribution. We believe that mPhase Television will provide great opportunities for the delivery of television in the future."" The next step, pending approval of the tests, will be for each content provider or network to sign affiliation agreements. These affiliation agreements will stipulate that the content can be delivered from mPhase TV to telephone companies all over the country, and then over copper wires through the Traverser DVDDS into customer premises. ""Agreements with the world's major networks to test their signals over an alternative medium such as telephone wire, using the mPhase Traverser DVDDS as opposed to coaxial cable, is another marker which validates our strategy for delivering digital television using telephone wires,"" said Ronald A. Durando, President and CEO of mPhase Technologies. ""mPhase Television coupled with Traverser DVDDS technology will provide a turnkey solution for service providers who want to increase revenues by providing multimedia services while leveraging the cost-effective nature of the existing copper infrastructure."" ""We think this is a great concept, and BET looks forward to being a part of it,"" said Curtis Symond of BET's Affiliate Sales & Marketing division.
