Sony Licenses For 24p Cameras

Many in the industry probably thought that Sony was the sole proprietor when it came to 24p video camera technology, developed specifically to emulate the look and feel of film. Think again. It turns out that FILMLOOK, Inc. and Przyborski Productions Inc. own a patent on devising video devices for replicating the visual qualities of film. As a result, Sony has signed a licensing agreement with the joint companies for use of its Panavision-lensed HDW-F900 CineAlta high definition camcorders by Lucasfilm for the filming of ""Star Wars: Episode II."" Future licensing agreements have not been announced. FILMLOOK's Robert Faber remarked, ""With a growing trend toward film image simulation in broadcast TV, and digital projection in theatres along with plans for some features to be shot in high definition, we are highly confident that this patented technology will be a major part, if not a requirement of the entertainment industry in the future."" Faber continued, ""When this camera technology is implemented, it will have a far reaching impact in motion picture production from the consumer/prosumer level, broadcast/cable, and to feature theatrical releases.""
